The process is protopian*

1
Establish round goals
What do you hope to achieve by hosting a Subrosa round? Whether it is content development, community building, revenue generation, or some combination of these, we can tailor each round to support your specific goal(s).

2
Choose round settings
What are the unique settings for your Subrosa round? We will guide you through the various creative variables at play – the story settings  (i.e. chapters per writer, words per chapter, and time per turn), a writer entry fee, winning prize(s), and projected timelines (i.e. writer sign-up, story activation, story submission).  Our editorial and design team will also support you with the development of thematic round titles and the creation of original cover artwork for your Subrosa round.

3
Promote writer sign-up
Once the Subrosa round is officially launched online via the Switch-Lit website, we will cross-promote it to targeted writers across all owned, earned, and paid distribution channels. Writers must have a Switch-Lit account and answer a few questions for matchmaking purposes to join a Subrosa round.

4
Activate the round
After the sign-up period closes, our editorial team will begin matchmaking of all participating writers, set up all stories in corresponding Switch-Lit writer accounts, and send out an email notification to all writers that their story is now ready to start.

5
Track story progress
Throughout the story writing process, our editorial team will be on-call to provide any general writer support, process any potential writer fee refunds, and share writing inspiration via our email newsletter.

6
Review story submissions
What stories (or writer pairings) will provoke and inspire us with the creative possibilities of collaborative fiction or poetry? After our submission deadline, we will gather all submitted stories and present a long list for review by a predetermined panel of judges to determine our short list of winners via rank voting.

7
Announce winning stories
We will announce our winning stories via email and/or social channels for publishing in the Switch-Lit Library. Higher tier prizes may include cash prize payouts, multimedia adaptation (i.e. film, audiobook, print), or others depending on the Subrosa round goals and settings (see 1 and 2 above).

(*) A protopia, unlike a dystopia or utopia, is not about a final state or destination but a process of actively prototyping imaginative, at times radical, but altogether hopeful and inclusive future visions that feature previously marginalized voices. In a protopia, life improves gradually, chapter by chapter, over a long period of time. There is no singular future, or narrative, but many.
